It started with bedtime

(Which, if you have a small child, you'll know is somehow both the longest and shortest part of the day.)

I realized that the evenings I spent putting my son to sleep were slipping by faster than I expected. And that too many of them ended with the same questions on autopilot. How was kindergarten? Who did you play with? What did you eat for lunch? He was full of things to say. I was just too tired to ask anything better.

I wanted those evenings to feel like something worth showing up for. The Good Things Journal is what came out of that. And I hope that it changes what bedtime feels like for you too.

The ordinary stuff is the good stuff

Most of childhood isn’t made up of milestones. It’s strange questions, funny little obsessions, drawings, made-up words and completely unremarkable Tuesdays.

Real life over perfect routines

We're not interested in making family life another thing to do properly. Oohoo is for real days: the busy ones, the boring ones, the ones where everything goes slightly sideways.

Things worth keeping

Books that get scribbled in, photographs you can hold, objects that become more valuable because they’ve been used. Simple, beautiful things that earn their place in your home.

The studio

Oohoo Studios is an independent publishing studio making journals for children and the people who raise them. We believe that mindfulness for kids should feel like play — something that happens naturally, in the spaces that already exist in your day, not something you have to schedule or explain.

The Good Things Journal is the first of several, each one designed for a different age and a different kind of conversation.

What made you pick this up?

We’re always curious what evenings looked like the moment someone decided they wanted something a little different from it. If you want to share, we’d love to hear — drop us a line at hi@oohoo.co or find us on Instagram.
